Supporting Better Health Through Evidence-Based Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition plays a foundational role in managing chronic conditions, promoting recovery, and improving overall quality of life. But finding a reliable source for clear, practical nutrition guidance isn’t always easy—especially when dietary needs vary widely by age, medical history, and health goals.

CLS Health’s Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Mona Khalil, PhD, RDN, LD provides personalized nutrition counseling for patients of all ages, from children and expecting mothers to adults managing complex medical conditions.

Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, seeking help with weight management, or working to build sustainable habits, we offer evidence-based plans grounded in clinical insight and day-to-day practicality. Dr. Khalil partners with you to make realistic, meaningful changes that support long-term wellness.

Dietitian & Nutrition Services

At CLS Health, our registered dietitians go beyond meal plans — they help you understand how nutrition influences every part of your health journey. Using Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and evidence-based counseling, patients learn how food choices can improve energy, support healing, and enhance long-term wellness.

From managing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure to optimizing your physical performance or post-surgical recovery, our team provides practical guidance that fits your lifestyle. Each plan is designed to be sustainable, empowering you to make confident, lasting changes that align with your personal goals.

Our dietitians use Medical Nutrition Therapy to help manage conditions like celiac disease, digestive disorders, heart disease, and kidney or liver disease. We develop specialized nutrition plans that reduce inflammation, support organ function, and promote long-term wellness. CLS Health also provides oncology nutrition for patients undergoing cancer treatment and personalized guidance for food allergies and intolerances to ensure safe, balanced eating.

We help children and families build lifelong healthy habits through practical, age-appropriate nutrition care. Our pediatric dietitians provide assessments and counseling for children and teens, including support for picky eating, mealtime struggles, and balanced family meals. We also guide children in achieving healthy weight goals through personalized, compassionate nutrition strategies that focus on growth and confidence.

CLS Health supports mothers through pregnancy and beyond with nutrition plans designed to promote healthy pregnancy, fetal development, and postpartum recovery. Our prenatal counseling includes guidance for managing gestational diabetes, supporting healthy weight gain, and ensuring proper nutrient intake. We also provide postpartum and breastfeeding nutrition support to help mothers maintain a healthy milk supply, energy, and overall well-being.

Our registered dietitians provide sustainable strategies for adult weight management, focusing on balance, mindfulness, and long-term success. We also offer sports nutrition for active individuals to enhance energy, performance, and recovery. Each plan is customized to your goals, helping you feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in your nutrition choices.

Preparing for Your First Dietitian Appointment

Before your first appointment, please complete a few steps to help your registered dietitian better understand your health and nutrition needs.

  • Complete the new patient questionnaire.
  • Bring a list of all supplements and medications you take.
  • If you have recent lab results (such as Hemoglobin A1C or blood lipids), please bring a copy.
  • You’ll also be asked to complete a food history, so your dietitian can better tailor your plan to your eating habits and nutrition goals.
  • Review your medical and nutrition history.
  • Discuss your eating patterns, lifestyle habits, and overall wellness goals.
  • Provide education and recommendations to help you meet your short- and long-term nutrition goals.

Cost of Dietitian Visits (Self-Pay)

If your insurance plan does not cover nutrition counseling or Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), you may choose to self-pay for services.

  • Initial Consultation: $125
  • Follow-Up Visit: $100

We can provide a detailed, itemized receipt (“Superbill”) for your visit. This allows you to submit a reimbursement request to your insurance provider for out-of-network or non-participating coverage of MNT services.

FAQs

A registered dietitian (RD) is a licensed nutrition expert who provides evidence-based dietary guidance to support health, manage chronic conditions, and improve quality of life. They create personalized meal plans and work alongside medical teams to optimize nutrition care.

A dietitian is a licensed healthcare professional who has completed accredited training and passed a national exam. A nutritionist may or may not have formal education or credentials, depending on state regulations.

Yes, dietitians develop personalized, sustainable weight management plans based on your health goals, lifestyle, and medical history. They provide support, accountability, and long-term strategies to help you lose or maintain weight healthfully.

In most cases, no referral is required to see a dietitian; however, some insurance plans may require one for coverage. It’s best to check with your provider or contact our office at (281) 337-3079 for assistance.

Absolutely. Dietitians offer guidance on elimination diets, reading food labels, and balancing nutrition while avoiding trigger foods for allergies and intolerances.

During your first appointment, your dietitian will review your medical and nutrition history, discuss your eating patterns and lifestyle, and develop a personalized plan tailored to your goals. You’ll also complete a food history form to help guide your plan.

Yes. Dietitians can recommend dietary adjustments such as the low FODMAP diet or trigger tracking to reduce symptoms and improve gut health.

A dietitian can help optimize your nutrient intake during pregnancy, manage conditions like gestational diabetes, and support lactation nutrition to ensure both mother and baby receive adequate nourishment.

CLS Health offers self-pay rates for nutrition counseling. The initial consultation is $125, and follow-up visits are $100. We can also provide a Superbill—a detailed, itemized receipt—that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Coverage for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) varies by plan. Here’s how to verify:

  1. Check your diagnosis: MNT is typically covered for conditions like diabetes or kidney disease.
  2. Call your insurance provider: Ask about coverage for preventive nutrition or dietitian visits. Provide CPT codes 97802 or S9470 when asked (S9470 is typically not covered by Medicare).
  3. Ask how many sessions are included: Many plans limit the number of MNT visits per year.

Medicare covers MNT for patients with diabetes or chronic kidney disease, including renal transplant recipients. Other conditions may not qualify under Medicare guidelines.
