Treatments & Services

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, so it’s important to have a routine skin exam every year. During your exam, your dermatologist will check for any unusual moles or growths. If anything looks suspicious, they may recommend a biopsy to rule out cancer.

Eczema is a chronic condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy, and inflamed. Rosacea is a chronic condition that causes the face to become red and flushed. Both conditions can be treated with medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination of both.

Acne is a common condition that affects both teens and adults. Acne can cause pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads to form on the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. There are many different treatment options available depending on the severity of your acne. These include oral medications, topical treatments, light therapy, and surgery.

Precancerous lesions are abnormal cells that may become cancerous if they are not treated. These lesions can be detected with a routine skin exam. If precancerous lesions are found during your exam, your dermatologist will likely recommend one or more of the following treatments: cryotherapy (freezing), topical chemotherapy (medication applied to the skin), electrodesiccation and curettage (removal with electric needles and a sharp instrument), laser surgery (removal with a laser beam), or Mohs surgery (removal in layers).

Warts are small growths that occur on the skin caused by a virus. Warts can be treated with medication or surgery depending on their size and location. Common wart treatments include cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery (removal with electric needles), laser surgery (removal with a laser beam), and chemical peels (removal with chemicals).

Rashes are often an indication of an underlying health condition. Some common rashes include hives, eczema, psoriasis, and allergic reactions. If you have a rash, your dermatologist will work with you to determine its cause so that it can be properly treated. Treatment options vary depending on the underlying cause but may include oral or topical medications as well as light therapy or immunotherapy injections.

As you can see, there’s much more to dermatology than just beauty! To ensure that you stay healthy and catch any potentially serious problems early on, our Houston dermatologist recommends having a routine skin exam once per year—preferably in the late spring or early summer when you’re spending more time outdoors exposed to sunlight, which increases your risk of skin cancer.
