What is a Primary Care Provider?

A Primary Care Provider, or PCP, is typically a family medicine or internal medicine physician. Internal medicine physicians see patients 16 years or older, while family medicine physicians see patients starting from two months old. A PCP can also be a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA). These physicians diagnose and treat illnesses as well as provide preventive medical care. A primary care doctor is your main point of contact for healthcare in non-emergency situations. Our family physicians are available for walk-in appointments.

  • Annual Physicals and Well-Patient Visits
  • Flu Shots and Other Immunizations
  • Chronic Disease Management

Chronic Conditions We Treat

The Importance of Primary Care

Having a primary care physician is important for many reasons. They are different from most other healthcare providers in that you visit them for prevention and not just because you’re sick. They can help with questions regarding your health, annual exams, health screenings, and immunizations. If you feel sick, your primary care physician can examine you, order diagnostic tests, diagnose your illness, and prescribe medications. Lastly, if you’re in an accident or suffer an injury, your primary care physician will be there to help. Having a primary care physician is important for many reasons, and they should be someone you trust and feel comfortable with.

The flu shot is available year-round. It is best to get vaccinated before the flu begins spreading in your community.
How long does it take the flu vaccine to work?
It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your antibodies to develop and protect against influenza.
What screening tests do I need?
Your primary care physician may recommend specific tests during an annual exam. These can include tests to measure blood pressure or cholesterol.
