This holistic approach to annual check-ups ensures that all aspects of your health are considered, from physical to mental well-being.

What is Included in an Annual Physical Check Up?

An annual physical exam is a comprehensive check-up to assess your overall health and identify potential issues or underlying conditions. At CLS Health, we provide a thorough evaluation to ensure you stay on top of your health. Here’s what you can expect during your annual physical exam:

Importance of Annual Physicals for Early Detection

Regular annual physical exams are key to preventive healthcare. They allow for early detection of health issues, personalized health advice, and the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have with your healthcare provider. Here are some of the conditions that can be detected during an annual physical: Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Blood tests are a vital component of your annual physical exam. They help us assess several aspects of your health, including cholesterol, blood sugar, kidney and liver function, and more. Regular blood tests can detect underlying health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or other metabolic disorders early, allowing for timely intervention and management.

Understanding your health history is crucial for us to provide personalized care. During your annual physical, we will review your medical history, including any chronic conditions, past surgeries, family health history, and current medications. This evaluation helps us identify risk factors and tailor our recommendations to your needs. It’s also an opportunity to discuss any new symptoms or concerns.

The physical examination is a hands-on assessment in which our doctors check your vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature. They will also examine several parts of your body, including your heart, lungs, abdomen, and skin, to detect any abnormalities and pain you may have. This examination helps us ensure that all your body systems function correctly and identify any signs of illness or health issues.

Health screenings are an essential part of the annual physical exam, and depending on your age, gender, and risk factors, they may include various tests. These could involve screening for cancers (such as breast, prostate, or colorectal cancer), bone density tests for osteoporosis, depression and anxiety screenings, and others relevant to your medical history.

FAQs

In many cases, annual physicals are covered by insurance as part of preventive care. Most health insurance plans offer coverage for yearly physical exams with no out-of-pocket cost to the patient as long as the provider is in-network. It’s important to check with your specific insurance provider to understand the details of your coverage. For more information about annual physical costs and insurance coverage, please visit our insurance information page or contact the CLS team.

Annual physical examinations offer numerous benefits and are valuable for individuals of all ages. Here’s who benefits the most from these regular doctor check-ups:

  • Adults for monitoring overall health
  • Seniors for managing age-related issues, monitoring medications, and maintaining overall health and independence
  • People with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, or respiratory issues
  • Individuals with a family history of health issues
  • Athletes and physically active Individuals to prevent injuries and optimize performance
  • Children and adolescents for monitoring growth and development, ensuring proper immunizations, and addressing health or developmental concerns early on

The recommended frequency of physical exams varies based on age, health status, and specific health needs. Annual physical exams are advised for children and adolescents to monitor growth, development, and vaccinations. Adults under 50 and in good health should have a physical exam once every two years. In contrast, those over 50 should have one annually to monitor health changes, manage chronic conditions, and detect early signs of illness.

If your doctor finds something unusual during your annual physical, they will discuss their findings with you in detail by requesting a follow-up appointment. Depending on the nature of the issue, your doctor may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, imaging studies (like X-rays or MRIs), or referrals to specialists for more comprehensive evaluations. They will explain the potential implications of the findings and outline possible treatment options or lifestyle changes that might be necessary.
