LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a safe, highly effective laser eye surgery designed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. By creating a thin corneal flap and reshaping the tissue underneath, LASIK improves how light focuses on your retina—resulting in clear vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Benefits of LASIK:

  • Fast visual recovery — Many patients see clearly within 24 hours.
  • Comfortable experience — Numbing drops help minimize discomfort during the procedure.
  • Enduring results — LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea and has a high success rate.
  • Lifestyle freedom — Significantly reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Other Vision Correction Options at CLS Health

While LASIK is our most requested procedure, your eyes are unique—and we’ll always recommend the safest, most effective treatment for you.

PRK Eye Surgery

PRK Surgery – May be recommended for patients with thinner corneas or mild surface irregularities. The procedure removes the cornea’s outer layer before reshaping the underlying tissue with a laser. Recovery takes slightly longer than LASIK, but PRK can provide excellent long-term results.

SMILE Eye Surgery

SMILE Eye Surgery – A minimally invasive laser procedure for nearsightedness and astigmatism. It corrects vision by removing a small piece of corneal tissue, called a lenticule, through a tiny incision without creating a flap.

EVO ICL Vision Correction

EVO ICL — A biocompatible implantable lens placed inside the eye to correct vision without removing corneal tissue. It may be an option for patients with high prescriptions or corneas that are too thin for laser vision correction.

Am I a Candidate for LASIK?

LASIK may be an option if you are at least 18, have a stable vision prescription, healthy corneas, and no uncontrolled eye or health condition that could interfere with healing. If LASIK is not the best fit, your ophthalmologist may recommend PRK, SMILE, or EVO ICL based on your prescription, corneal health, and vision goals.

FAQs

LASIK may be an option if you are at least 18, have had a stable prescription for at least one year, and have healthy corneas. Pregnancy, certain medications, uncontrolled dry eye, keratoconus, and some health conditions may affect your eligibility. A comprehensive evaluation—including corneal mapping and tear-film testing—will help determine whether LASIK, PRK, SMILE, or EVO ICL is appropriate for you.

All three procedures reshape the cornea to correct vision, but the techniques vary:

  • LASIK creates a flap before laser treatment.
  • PRK removes the outer corneal layer before reshaping.
  • SMILE uses a small incision to remove a thin disc inside the cornea.
Each has its own recovery timeline and advantages. We’ll help you choose the best option based on your eyes and lifestyle.

LASIK is typically completed in less than 30 minutes total for both eyes, with the laser portion lasting only seconds. Both eyes are usually treated during the same appointment, allowing for one recovery period. You will need someone to drive you home afterward.

Numbing drops help keep the procedure comfortable. You may feel light pressure during treatment and experience temporary dryness, irritation, or light sensitivity afterward. PRK typically causes more surface discomfort during the first few days, which can be managed with prescribed eye drops and medication.

Laser vision correction has a strong safety record when patients are carefully evaluated and treated by an experienced surgeon. Temporary effects can include dry eye, glare, or halos around lights. Although serious complications are uncommon, every procedure has risks, which your ophthalmologist will review during your consultation.

LASIK costs vary based on the treatment plan, technology used, and individual vision needs. Most insurance plans consider LASIK an elective procedure and do not cover it. Contact our team to learn about current pricing and available payment or financing options.

LASIK, PRK, and SMILE can treat eligible ranges and types of astigmatism. Your prescription, corneal shape, and overall eye health will determine which procedure may be appropriate. Avoid promising that every “high astigmatism” prescription qualifies before evaluation.

To protect your eyes while they heal, avoid rubbing them, swimming, hot tubs, dusty environments, and eye makeup for at least 1–2 weeks. Wear sunglasses outdoors and use lubricating eye drops as directed. We’ll walk you through a full recovery plan after your procedure.

Yes—laser vision correction is typically done on both eyes in one appointment. This approach is safe and allows for a single recovery period. You’ll need a driver on surgery day and may experience temporary blurry vision for a few hours.

Vision results are long-lasting for most patients. The changes to your cornea are permanent, but age-related conditions like presbyopia may still develop later. Some patients may eventually need reading glasses or enhancements. Regular eye exams help monitor long-term outcomes.
