“Taking care of human beings when they are sick and most vulnerable represents the highest challenge for any of us. This is hard enough when the patient can communicate and becomes a daunting task when critically ill on life support and unable to interact. When I entered the Intensive Care Unit for the first time during my residency training, I realized what I wanted to do in “Medicine.” I have been a physician for 30 years and to this day, hospital medicine and particularly taking care of critically ill patients in the ICU makes all my sacrifices to become a physician worthwhile.” – Luigi Terminella, MD
