Depending on provider availability and your educational goals, placements may be offered in communities such as Houston, Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, Webster, The Woodlands, Conroe, and surrounding areas.

Choose Your Learning Experience 

Clinical rotations and medical observerships offer different types of learning experiences. Understanding the difference can help applicants choose the right opportunity.

Clinical Rotations 

Clinical rotations are designed for students enrolled in accredited healthcare education programs who need supervised clinical experience as part of their academic training. 

May be appropriate for: 

  • Medical students 
  • Physician Assistant (PA) students

  • Medical assistant students

May Include: 

  • Supervised hands-on patient care 
  • Academic clinical experience

  • An affiliation agreement between CLS Health and the student’s academic institution

Medical Observerships 

Medical observerships are observation-only experiences designed for individuals who want to learn more about healthcare, physician practice, and outpatient medicine.

May be appropriate for: 

  • High school students exploring healthcare careers 
  • Pre-med students 
  • Undergraduate healthcare students 
  • International medical students 
  • International medical graduates 

May Include: 

  • Physician shadowing 
  • Observation-only clinical exposure 
  • No hands-on patient care 
  • No academic credit 
  • No affiliation agreement requirement 
  • Exposure to one or more medical specialties, based on availability

The CLS Health application process is designed to match qualified applicants with available providers, specialties, and clinical locations. 

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Placement is based on provider availability, clinic capacity, and educational fit. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement.

Clinical Rotation Applicants: 

  • Enrolled in an accredited healthcare education program 
  • Meet academic institution’s requirements 
  • Have an active affiliation agreement between CLS Health and academic institution 

Medical Observership Applicants: 

  • High school students 
  • Undergraduate students 
  • Graduate students 
  • International medical students 
  • International medical graduates 
  • Individuals exploring careers in healthcare

Selection Process

Qualified applications are reviewed individually. Successful applicants may then be matched with an available provider, specialty, or clinic location. 

After review, selected applicants may be asked to: 

  • Confirm placement details 
  • Complete onboarding requirements 
  • Submit required documentation 
  • Receive a clinical schedule 
  • Review orientation information 

International Medical Students and Graduates 

CLS Health welcomes international medical students and graduates interested in observing outpatient clinical practice in the United States. 

Please note: 

  • Medical observerships are observation-only experiences. 
  • Observerships do not provide residency or fellowship credit. 
  • Observerships do not constitute employment. 
  • Participants are not granted clinical privileges. 
  • Participants do not perform direct patient care. 
  • Invitation letters may be provided after an Observership placement has been confirmed. 
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring they meet all visa and legal requirements before participating.
