Wound Care Specialists Serving Houston-Clear Lake

When a wound lingers longer than expected, it could signal an underlying health issue that requires expert care. Chronic wounds, like diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, or those caused by poor circulation, can worsen over time and may lead to serious complications if left untreated. If a wound hasn’t healed after four weeks, it’s time to see a specialist.

Our specialists diagnose and treat slow-healing wounds that don’t respond to standard care, such as arterial and venous ulcers, post-surgical wounds, traumatic skin injuries, and burns. We administer advanced treatments to help wounds heal faster and lower the risk of infection or long-term damage. In 9 out of 10 cases, patients see an improvement within 16 weeks of commencing treatment.

Your care at CLS Health extends beyond wound management. We collaborate closely with specialists in vascular medicine, endocrinology, and other relevant fields to address underlying conditions that may affect healing. This coordinated approach not only accelerates recovery but also helps prevent future complications. Don't wait for a wound to worsen—schedule your consultation today and take the first step toward complete healing with the support of our expert team.

FAQs

A chronic wound is a sore or ulcer that fails to heal within 4–6 weeks, despite standard medical treatment. These wounds often result from underlying conditions like diabetes, poor circulation, infection, or pressure, and require specialized care to promote healing and prevent complications.

Chronic wounds typically progress through four stages:

  • Hemostasis – Initial clotting to stop bleeding
  • Inflammation – White blood cells fight infection
  • Proliferation – New tissue and blood vessels begin to form
  • Maturation (Remodeling) – Final tissue rebuilding and scar formation

In chronic wounds, this process is delayed or stalled—often in the inflammatory stage—preventing full healing.

Common reasons include poor blood circulation, diabetes, infection, pressure on the wound, or inadequate oxygen supply. Nutritional deficiencies, smoking, and certain medications can also impair wound healing.

Diabetic wounds require a multi-layered approach: wound cleaning, infection control, offloading pressure, and advanced therapies like topical dressings, debridement, or tissue regeneration. Proper blood sugar control is critical to successful healing.
