The decision to undergo plastic surgery is a personal one that should not be taken lightly. However, if you are considering surgery, it’s important to know that there are many benefits that can come from undergoing a procedure. Some of the benefits of plastic surgery include:

  • Boosting Your Confidence: One of the most common reasons why people seek out plastic surgery is to boost their confidence. Whether it’s getting rid of excess skin after weight loss or correcting a birth defect, plastic surgery can give you the confidence you need to live your life to the fullest.
  • Improving Your Health: In some cases, plastic surgery can improve your health. For example, if you have an overbite that is causing pain in your jaw, correcting it with surgery can eliminate the pain and improve your overall health.

Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics FAQ

What is a mommy makeover?

The term “mommy makeover” refers to a combination of plastic surgery techniques designed to restore the body’s post-pregnancy shape. This procedure usually includes several procedures such as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast augmentation or tightening, liposuction, and sometimes intimate plastic surgery. Depending on your individual needs, your doctor will create a personalized treatment plan tailored specifically for you.

Patients should be aware that the recovery period following a mommy makeover can take up to three weeks during which they must strictly follow doctor’s orders and refrain from any physical activity. Furthermore, patients should ensure they have adequate support during this time in order for them to get through it as comfortably as possible before enjoying their newly restored figure!

What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen area and helps return the navel to its original position. It is also used to improve muscle tone in the abdominal wall if necessary. This procedure helps new mothers get rid of any lingering post-pregnancy issues like sagging skin or weakened abdominal muscles that cannot be addressed with diet and exercise.
What is fat grafting?

Fat grafting is a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses fat cells from one area of the body—such as the abdomen—and transfers them to another area in order to add more volume. The most common areas for this type of procedure are the cheeks, lips, and buttocks. The process requires a small incision in both donor and recipient areas, allowing for the extraction and placement of fat cells. This makes it an excellent option for people who don’t want to undergo more invasive procedures like implants or injections.

One of the main benefits of fat grafting is that it usually takes no longer than two hours depending on the size of the area being treated and can be performed under local anesthesia. Recovery time varies between individuals but generally lasts around two weeks with patients advised to wear compression underwear during this time and take things easy while they recover.

Fat grafting also has minimal risks associated with it, making it an attractive alternative to other popular treatments such as dermal fillers. By transferring fat cells instead of synthetic agents, there is also much less chance of adverse reactions or long-term complications that can arise from other procedures. Additionally, because fat cells come from your own body, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction, which makes this an ideal choice for those who are concerned about potential side effects from other treatments. Finally, by using your own tissue there will be no visible scarring after surgery due to the small incisions used in this type of procedure compared to more invasive options like implants or injections, which can leave noticeable marks on your skin after treatment.

For breast procedures, it depends on whether enough volume has been retained after breastfeeding; if not, implants or fat grafting might be recommended in order to restore fullness in the breasts while maintaining a natural look and feel. Liposuction allows large amounts of fat to be removed from areas like the waist or hips that may have been affected by childbirth. It is also used to remove stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to dieting or exercising. This technique provides amazing results when performed correctly by experienced professionals—allowing patients to reclaim their figure without having to undergo multiple invasive surgeries or spend countless hours at the gym.

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure used to reduce the size of the stomach and improve the shape of the abdominal wall. This body contouring technique involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen while tightening weakened muscles that cause sagging. It can help restore a more aesthetically pleasing waistline and create a smoother, flatter stomach. Modern techniques make scarring virtually undetectable, meaning you can enjoy your new shape without feeling self-conscious about visible scars.

There are three main types of abdominoplasty depending on the degree of correction required: mini, classical, and extended.

Mini abdominoplasty is designed for patients who don’t need extensive skin removal or muscle repositioning as it only addresses excess skin between the belly button and the pubic area.

Classical abdominoplasty involves cutting around the umbilicus so that excess tissue below the belly button can be removed along with some liposuction if needed before tightening abdominal wall muscles to enhance definition.

Extended abdominoplasty requires more extensive surgery in order to remove large amounts of excess skin from the lower abdomen as well as the back area, which requires repositioning the belly button in most cases.

Recovery following an abdominoplasty procedure typically lasts between 2-6 weeks depending on individual factors such as age, health status, lifestyle habits, etc., during which time it’s important to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions closely in order to avoid any complications or delays in the healing process. Most patients will see improved core strength and stability after the procedure, which makes exercising easier since they no longer have excess skin impeding them from movements they want to do during their workouts.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)?

The Brazilian Butt Lift is done by transferring fat from one area of your body to another, such as from your abdomen to your buttock area. This fat transfer method helps add volume where desired, giving you more shapely curves in the desired area—all with no scarring or incisions left behind. Your own fat is used during this process, which means that there’s no chance of developing side effects or complications like you would with some other injectables. Additionally, since it’s your own fat being used to pad out certain areas, it won’t degrade over time like many other injectables would. In order to get the desired look, several procedures may be necessary; however, results are usually visible after the first session! It’s also important to note that you should only go through this procedure if it’s done by an experienced surgeon who knows exactly how to do it safely and effectively.

The benefits of having a Brazilian Butt Lift are numerous—not only will you get more voluminous and round-looking buttocks and hips, but it can also help build confidence in one’s appearance with no scarring or incisions left behind. Furthermore, due to its minimally invasive nature, there’s no need for any downtime required following the procedure, meaning you can go back about your day almost immediately after leaving the office! Because it uses your own body fat as a re-contouring agent instead of synthetic fillers or implants, you won’t have to worry about any adverse reactions or other long-term issues related to those methods either. Ultimately, if you’re looking for an easy way to change your silhouette in a natural way without having to worry about possible side effects, this could be a great option for you!

Gender reassignment procedures may also include facial reconstruction surgeries such as reshaping facial features or eyebrow sculpting for a more masculine or feminine look if requested by patients. It is important for us to understand our patients’ goals so that we can provide them with individualized care that meets their needs and wishes.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is an aesthetic and reconstructive surgery that helps to correct the upper and lower eyelids. During the procedure, which typically takes 30-40 minutes in most clinics, small incisions are made near the eyelid area in order to remove any excess fat or skin tissue. Depending on the extent of correction needed, certain muscles or tissues around the eye may also be tightened during surgery. Afterward, patients may experience swelling and bruising as well as dryness or itching around their eyes for several weeks; however these are all very common side effects of blepharoplasty that should subside over time.

From eliminating under-eye puffiness to brightening up one’s overall appearance with wider-looking eyes, blepharoplasty offers a range of potential benefits for patients. If you feel like you don’t look your best due to sagging skin around your eyes or wrinkles on your upper lids, this procedure can help make you look younger by refreshing your facial features and providing you with a more awake appearance without changing your natural facial features too much. Additionally, blepharoplasty is also beneficial if you have experienced vision changes due to aging, as it can help reduce drooping lids that may be obstructing your vision.

What is jaw surgery?
Orthognathic surgery is a type of corrective jaw surgery that helps improve the functioning of the bite and facial profile. This surgery is usually done when the top and bottom teeth don’t meet correctly when the mouth is closed, or when there’s a discrepancy between the actual position of the jaws and the ideal position of them.
What is ear reconstruction, or otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct and improve the appearance of the ears. During an otoplasty procedure, an incision is made behind each ear which allows access to the cartilage of the ear. By manipulating the underlying cartilage, changes can be made to the shape and size of the ears, making them appear more proportionate to their face. After manipulating the cartilage, incisions are closed with sutures and sometimes wrapped for further support during healing. In most cases, results are visible right away with additional improvements over time as swelling subsides and healing takes place.

For optimal results from your surgery, it’s important that you follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon, such as avoiding contact with water for several days after surgery and sleeping on your back in order to avoid pressure on your ears. Additionally, patients should not touch or manipulate their ears in any way, as this could lead to complications such as disfigurement or infection. Results from otoplasty can last for years if taken care of properly and maintained with routine follow-up appointments with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

What is a browlift?

Browlift surgery typically takes between 1-2 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure. During the surgery, small incisions are made along your hairline so that the scarring is hidden once healed. The surgeon then lifts and repositions the underlying tissue and muscles before removing any excess skin if necessary. This will create a smoother, more youthful-looking forehead with fewer wrinkles, reduced heaviness in the eyebrow area, and restored balance in facial features.

The recovery process following a browlift typically takes 1-2 weeks with swelling observed in the area of operation during this period. During recovery, you should follow all post-op instructions given by your doctor, including taking care not to raise or lower your eyebrows too quickly or without support, avoiding strenuous activities (such as lifting heavy objects), limiting sun exposure, washing gently around incision sites, etc. Although there may be discomfort during this time period, it can easily be managed with prescribed medications from your doctor.

One of the great benefits of brow lift surgery is that results are long-lasting and you don’t need to worry about maintaining them as would be required with fillers or other non-surgical treatments like Botox injections, for example. You can also expect to see an improvement in facial expressions due to lifted tissue, resulting in a more alert look as well as improved self-confidence knowing that you’ve taken steps toward restoring your youthful appearance!

What is a face-lift?

A face-lift (also known as rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that helps reduce visible signs of aging in the face and neck. This includes sagging skin, drooping eyebrows, deep nasolabial folds (or “smile lines”), wrinkles in any area of the face, and even a double chin. As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity, which causes these common signs of aging. A facelift can help restore the contours of your face by removing excess skin and tightening underlying muscles for an overall younger-looking appearance.

Anyone between 45-50 years old may be eligible for this procedure, though there are no age restrictions as long as the patient is generally healthy. Before undergoing any type of plastic surgery procedure, it’s important to discuss your medical history with your doctor during an initial consultation—this will help ensure that you’re a good candidate for the operation and what kind of results you can expect afterward.

The actual operation typically takes about 2-3 hours depending on how complex the case is. Afterward, patients typically spend one night in recovery before being allowed to return home. Recovery from a facelift usually takes around two weeks or so—during this time period, it’s important to avoid strenuous activities such as exercising or lifting heavy objects in order for optimal healing and results. After a full recovery, patients should enjoy improved facial contours and an overall younger-looking appearance!

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty—or a nose job—is a surgical procedure that can be used to modify and enhance the shape of your nose. Depending on the desired outcome, several modifications are possible during one rhinoplasty procedure. This includes reshaping cartilage and bone tissue, reducing the size of large nostrils, changing the angle between the lip and nasal septum, and correcting asymmetry if it exists.

Having an aesthetic nose is important for self-confidence, which in turn improves overall well-being. Not only does it benefit your physical appearance, but it also improves your quality of life and enhances your confidence levels. Patients often report feeling more comfortable in social situations and have improved outlooks after undergoing rhinoplasty.

After completing a rhinoplasty procedure at Wegge Plastic Surgery, a rigid plaster bandage is applied to prevent displacement of cartilage and soft tissues for approximately 7-10 days along with sutures (if not self-absorbable). After the removal of this bandage, you will see an improved version of yourself with enhanced confidence and improved quality of life!

What are cosmetic fillers?

Facial fillers are products such as collagen, hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite that reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, and enhance lips.

Fillers offer many benefits that make them an increasingly popular treatment option. They provide a natural look without the need for surgery or other invasive procedures. Fillers have also been found to be safe with very few side effects. For those looking for long-term results, fillers are also beneficial because they usually last up to one year before needing touch-ups or another application. Additionally, fillers can be used in combination with other treatments, such as Botox, to create better results.

When considering filler treatments, it’s important that you consult with a medical professional who is experienced and knowledgeable in this area of expertise. A good practitioner will take into account your individual needs and aesthetic goals while tailoring the treatment plan accordingly so that you receive the best possible results with minimal risk involved.

Fillers can provide dramatic results with minimal downtime or discomfort involved in the process. The effects are often immediate; patients may see a change in their appearance right away after receiving injections of dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane. Afterward, patients may experience some soreness at the injection sites, which should subside within a few days after treatment. For those looking for subtle yet noticeable changes in their facial structure or wrinkles without going through any major changes or risks associated with surgery, fillers can be an excellent choice when done properly by an experienced practitioner.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment approved by the FDA that uses botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax muscles in your face. This helps reduce wrinkles caused by facial expressions like smiling or squinting. The result is smoother skin and a more refreshed appearance—all without surgery! Botox injections have been around for many years now and have become increasingly popular due to their safety profile and effectiveness when administered correctly.

The main benefit of Botox injections is that they allow you to look younger without any significant changes to your face. Botox also helps reduce wrinkles caused by facial expressions like smiling or squinting, which often leads to improved self-confidence as well as an enhanced look overall. Additionally, repeated treatments can help prolong results since when injected into certain facial muscles, they “learn” to relax and become less responsive over time—which reduces wrinkles even further than what one injection could do alone.

It’s important to note that for safety reasons, Botox should only be administered by qualified medical personnel in certified facilities where strict safety protocols are followed. This ensures that you receive quality care while still achieving the desired results.

People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease should not use Botox.

How long do dermal filler results last?
Different dermal fillers last for different lengths of time. Some dermal fillers can last for six to twelve months, while other dermal fillers can last up to five years.
What is the upper age limit for Botox?
There’s no age limit for having Botox, but it should not be used for cosmetic reasons on people under the age of 18.
What is breast augmentation?

Are you considering breast enlargement surgery? If so, it pays to do your research. Breast enlargement is a popular procedure and can be achieved through silicone implants that come in various shapes and sizes. The implantation process itself typically takes around one hour, with mild discomfort experienced during and after the procedure. Let’s delve further into what this surgery entails and explore the recovery process.

Breast enlargement is a surgical procedure that involves the placement of silicone implants under the breast tissue or chest muscles. During the implantation process, an incision is made to access the pocket where the implants are placed—either directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or underneath the chest muscle (submuscular). Depending on individual circumstances, different techniques may be used; however, your doctor will discuss all options available with you prior to treatment. Generally speaking, patients experience mild discomfort during and after surgery—which they can manage with pain relievers prescribed by their doctor, although any pain should subside over time as part of a healthy recovery process.

Immediately following surgery, swelling of the chest area is likely to occur, along with temporary numbness and an increase in body temperature due to inflammation caused by your body reacting to the foreign material implanted into it. It’s important for patients to limit their activities for optimum results, as excessive strain or movement can damage newly implanted breasts. Furthermore, wearing a well-fitting support bra for 2-4 weeks post-surgery helps reduce swelling and provides important external support while you recover from surgery. Additionally, sutures need to be removed between 7-14 days post-surgery; however, this will vary depending on individual circumstances, so your doctor should be consulted for more detailed advice before undergoing any medical procedures.

What is breast asymmetry correction?

For individuals who have experienced unevenness in their chest, breast asymmetry correction may be a viable option. This procedure is designed to help those seeking improved symmetry between both breasts, as well as a more balanced silhouette.

When it comes to breast asymmetry correction, different methods will be selected based on the degree of deformation as well as other factors that have to be taken into consideration. These can include the use of prostheses to change the shape and size of the breasts, reducing and tightening them, or even adjusting the size of the areola diameter. While these procedures are tailored to each individual patient’s needs and goals, they all aim to restore one’s natural figure while providing improved symmetry between both breasts.

Following this type of surgery, patients remain under doctor supervision for 1-2 days before being able to remove their stitches after two weeks. During this rehabilitation period, it’s important for patients to avoid exercising or playing any kind of sport in addition to wearing compression underwear in order to ensure a full recovery. It is also recommended for patients to get plenty of rest and take prescribed painkillers if needed. Additionally, eating balanced meals and drinking plenty of fluids can help speed up the healing process. Once recovered from the procedure, post-operative follow-ups should be done so that any complications can be avoided in time.

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition that affects some men and involves enlargement of the mammary glands. This can be due to hormonal imbalances or increased fat deposits in the chest area. Depending on the type of gynecomastia present, treatment may involve surgery and/or hormone therapy. Surgery is typically recommended for severe cases and involves removing or reducing tissue from the chest area. Following surgery, patients are typically asked to wear compression garments for approximately one month to help reduce swelling and aid in recovery. In some cases, hormone replacement therapy may also be required in order to help regulate male hormones more effectively and prevent further enlargement of the mammary glands.

It is important for those dealing with gynecomastia to understand that there are treatments available that can help them manage their condition. Surgery is an option for those with more severe cases of gynecomastia; however, it should not be considered a cure-all solution, as it does come with risks such as scarring, infection, wound healing problems, and other complications. Additionally, some patients may require hormone replacement therapy in order to achieve optimal results from their surgery or other treatments. That being said, many people find that proper care following surgery—including wearing compression garments—can help reduce swelling and aid in recovery time while reducing the risk of complications associated with the surgery itself.

How old do you have to be to get plastic surgery?
There are no specific laws in the United States that prevent teenagers from getting cosmetic surgery; however, parental consent is required for patients under the age of 18.
What is cleft lip treatment?

If you or your child has been diagnosed with a cleft lip, you may have many questions about the treatment and what to expect. A cleft lip is a congenital malformation of the soft tissues in the face, most commonly affecting the upper lip, that results in a split or dividing line. In some cases, this splitting may extend up into the nose area. This anomaly can occur on its own or it may be combined with a cleft palate, which involves a split in the roof of the mouth and can also affect other parts of the face.

It’s important to understand that while this condition is not preventable, there are treatments available that can help improve both appearance and function.
Cleft lip deformities are caused by an interruption in embryogenesis—when an embryo’s facial features are being formed. Factors that can increase the risk for cleft lip include genetics and environmental exposures during pregnancy, such as tobacco smoke, certain medications, and alcohol use.

The treatment for cleft lip requires surgery to close the gap in order to improve both appearance and function. Surgery typically takes place at around 3 months of age, but it can be done later; it is most successful when performed early. The goal of surgery is to correct cosmetic and functional issues associated with clefts, such as feeding difficulties or speech impediments. Surgery also helps reduce further complications, such as infection or dental problems, that can arise due to breathing through an open cleft.

After surgery, your doctor will provide instructions on how best to care for your child’s incision site following their procedure. Generally speaking, this includes keeping it clean and dry; applying ointment regularly; avoiding excessive sun exposure; avoiding strenuous activities, such as swimming; protecting from injury; and making sure your child rests adequately after surgery so that their body has time to heal properly before returning back to normal activities like playing sports or going out with friends. Additionally, follow-up appointments should be scheduled with your doctor at regular intervals following surgery so they can monitor progress.

The goal of cleft lip surgery is to repair the separation of the lip. Cleft lip is typically repaired between 3 and 6 months of age

What is cleft rhinoplasty?

Cleft rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct abnormalities in the nose due to cleft lip or cleft palate. It’s a delicate and intricate surgery that requires careful planning and follow-up care in order to achieve successful outcomes. If you’re considering this type of operation, it’s important to know what steps are involved and what kind of results you can expect afterward.

The ideal age for this type of surgery is between 16 and 18 years old; however, it can be performed on younger patients depending on their health condition. During the procedure, the surgeon will reshape the bridge and/or tip of the nose, as well as repair any damage done to the nasal septum. Afterward, a rigid plaster bandage will be applied to protect it and promote healing—this needs to remain in place for 7-10 days before it can be safely removed.

It’s normal for patients to experience some hematomas (bruising) and edema (swelling) after their procedure, but these should pass within 3-4 weeks with no need for additional treatment. However, tissue restoration may take up to three months before the results are fully visible. During this time period, it’s important that you follow your doctor’s advice regarding care instructions, such as using saline solutions or applying ointment on your nose several times a day, avoiding strenuous activity or direct exposure of your skin to sunlight, and abstaining from drinking alcoholic beverages or smoking cigarettes. These measures will ensure that healing is optimized and that expected outcomes from surgery will be achieved.

What is tongue tie, and can it be treated?

Ankyloglossia, also known as tongue-tie, is a condition that affects two percent of newborns, which can cause several problems, such as difficulty with sucking, improper sound pronunciation, and incorrect bite formation. While many parents are aware that this condition exists and can cause these issues in children, they may not be fully informed on the causes and treatments available.

Ankyloglossia is an abnormal condition that occurs when the lingual frenum (the fold of the mucous membrane under the tongue) is shorter than normal. This restricts the movement of the tongue, making it difficult for a child to perform certain activities, such as eating or speaking correctly. The main indications of ankyloglossia include trouble swallowing and sucking food, incorrect alignment of teeth, a V-shaped tip on the tongue, snoring during sleep, and malocclusion (misalignment of the upper and lower teeth).

In order to treat this anomaly effectively and safely, surgical intervention is often required to perform a plastic frenotomy. This involves cutting the frenulum tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth so that it is a more appropriate length. As technology has advanced over time, there have been various techniques developed to perform this procedure on infants and toddlers. These techniques involve using lasers or scissors depending on what best suits each individual case. It’s important for parents to access specialized healthcare services qualified to diagnose and treat this condition early on so that their child can receive effective treatment as soon as possible.

It’s important not only for physical health but also mental health, since difficulties in feeding or speaking may lead to low self-esteem and socialization issues as they grow up. Early detection helps ensure successful outcomes, which minimize risks of complications or recurrence later down the line; it also helps avoid long-term speech therapy sessions, which can be costly if not done at an early age while their bodies are still developing properly. Therefore, parents should look out for any signs from their children that could suggest they have ankyloglossia; if detected early enough, treatment can begin quickly, allowing them to overcome any difficulties associated with this disorder before it becomes more severe later on in life.

What is a laceration repair?
A laceration is a tear or cut in the skin, tissue, and/or muscle. They can vary in length, depth, and width. A laceration repair is the act of cleaning, preparing, and closing the wound.
What does a skin lesion look like?
Skin lesions include rash, swelling, bumps, hardening, or any other change in or on your skin. Skin lesions may result from a wide range of causes, as harmless as a small scrape or as serious as skin cancer.
What is scar revision?

Scar revision is surgery to improve or reduce the appearance of scars. The initial healing phase of a surgical scar revision may include localized swelling or discomfort and may take 1 to 2 weeks.

How can a plastic surgeon help with my breast cancer diagnosis?

Being diagnosed with breast cancer is a scary and overwhelming experience. Our goal is to be your support system and guide you along every step of your journey! We want you to feel informed, comfortable, and in charge of your treatment plan.

Cancer occurs because of mutations—atypical changes in the genes responsible for regulating cell growth and keeping them healthy. Most often, the disease begins in the cells of the lobes (glands that produce milk) or in the ducts (through which milk from the lobes enters the nipple).

Symptoms:

  • A lump in the chest, different from the surrounding tissue
  • Changes in the size, shape, or appearance of the mammary gland
  • Skin changes, peeling, or retraction of a certain area
  • Retracted nipple
  • Redness of the breast
  • Skin resembling an orange peel

Typically, the breast cancer stage is indicated by a number on a scale from 0 to IV, with stage 0 describing non-invasive cancer, and stage IV describing an invasive disease that has spread to other parts of the body.

When choosing a method of operation, specialists plan in advance the option to restore the shape and volume of the mammary gland. Surgical treatment involves two approaches, and the method of breast reconstruction depends on them directly.

Lumpectomy – partial removal of the mammary gland
Mastectomy – complete removal of the mammary gland

The need for a mastectomy occurs if:

  • The patient has small breasts
  • The tumor has grown into the skin or chest wall
  • The tumor is very large
  • The tumor is spread throughout the chest

Chemotherapy can be prescribed both before and after the operation. The goal of preoperative chemotherapy is to reduce the primary tumor so that it is possible to remove the formation while preserving the breast (lumpectomy). After surgery, chemotherapy is prescribed to destroy metastases and suppress them in the future.

Reconstructive surgery will allow a woman to avoid worries due to the deformation or loss of a breast.

Breast recovery options:

  • Simultaneous – performed immediately after removal of the formation during the operation
  • Delayed – performed after all stages of treatment

Reconstructive operations also differ in the type of tissue that is used to restore the breast. Depending on the specific situation, either the body’s own tissues or permanent or temporary implants are used.
