Dr. Onorato is originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio in 1989. She then completed a residency in internal medicine from 1989 until 1992 at the University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr. Onorato completed one year of infectious disease fellowship at University Hospitals of Cleveland from 1992 to 1993 before serving as the chief resident in internal medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland from 1993 until 1994.
In 1994, Dr. Onorato moved to Texas and completed her infectious disease fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Dr. Onorato served on the infectious disease faculty at the University of Texas from 1995 until 2002 before founding Southeast Houston Infectious Diseases in September 2002. During her tenure at UTMB, she was a co-investigator for several clinical trials of HIV therapy, including several sponsored by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG).
Dr. Onorato has over twenty years of experience caring for HIV patients and infectious disease problems.
